The Horse Derby is Planet Horse’s premier competitive leaderboard designed for horses that have reached level 15 or higher. By participating in the Derby, owners enter their fully-trained horses into a Matchmaking Rating (MMR) system, ensuring that similarly skilled competitors face off for fair and balanced competition.
Only horses at level 15+ may join. To enter, owners must pay a registration fee in $PHORSE, which helps seed the reward pools and demonstrates commitment to the competition.
MMR-Based Ranking: Each Derby event recalibrates horses’ MMR based on past performance. This rating determines matchups and leaderboard positioning, providing a dynamic and merit-based ranking structure.
Dual Earnings Model:
Prize Rewards: Monthly allocations of RON and $PHORSE are distributed to top-ranking horses. Owners of the highest-MMR horses receive a larger share, incentivizing consistent competitive play.
Betting Revenues: Even if a player’s horse does not participate, they can still bet on Derby outcomes by wagering on horses they predict will win. A portion of all bet proceeds is shared with the respective horse owners, so successful trainers earn both through competition and the popularity of their horses.
Strategic Importance: As the Base Denominator (global stat modifier) increases over time, simple “click-to-earn” rewards become less impactful. The Derby’s competitive rewards system shifts focus toward skill, horse optimization, and strategic wagering. This evolution:
Encourages owners to invest in training and itemization to improve their horses’ MMR.
Fosters a deeper player economy, where owners balance breeding, training, and betting decisions.
Promotes long-term engagement, as participants chase seasonal leaderboards rather than one-off races.
By combining direct competition with a robust betting mechanism, the Horse Derby transforms Planet Horse into a truly competitive ecosystem—rewarding both performance and community engagement.
